FC Westlake Continues to Grow with New Program and New Hires.

(Austin, Texas) - FC Westlake is pleased to announce that the club is expanding with the appointment of Mike Rees, Paul DeFelice, Jimmy Stanton, and Rob Hayward. Additionally, FC Westlake is also launching a new Austin South/Buda soccer program which will be led by former Huston-Tillotson Men’s Coach, Marco Gutierrez.

FC Westlake is looking to continue their growth trend by adding new additions to their program directors staff and expanding to serve more of the Austin area.

Mike Rees - Program Director 2008 & 2007 Girls. Mike has been a staff coach with FC Westlake since 2017. Mike was previously with Challenger Sports as an Executive Account Manager where he oversaw 70 summer soccer camps each year. Mike holds an FA Level 1, USSF D license & NSCAA National Diploma.

“I am extremely happy and excited to start this new role and be a part of the development of FC Westlake players and coaches both now and in the future. I look forward to helping to provide the best learning environment possible and to become a role model both in soccer and away from the game” said Mike Rees.

Paul DeFelice - Program Director 2006 Girls & Coaches Education Director. Paul has been a staff coach with FC Westlake since the summer of 2018 and is a current board member of the local non-profit Upper Ninety where he has focused on delivering soccer along with emotional learning to low-income children in Austin. He recently served as program director at Bromfield SC in Colorado from 2012-2017. Paul holds a USSF B & NSCAA Premier coaching license.

“The opportunity to be involved with what FC Westlake is doing in the Austin area is a special one and I am honored to be a part of an organization that is dedicated to constant improvement.  I am very much looking forward to working alongside the staff, coaches, players, and families to expand upon the clubs holistic approach to youth soccer” said Paul DeFelice.

Jimmy Stanton Program Director 2005 to 2001 Girls. Jimmy joins FC Westlake from River City Rangers soccer club where he was the Assistant Director of Coaching and Academy Director.

“I am honored and excited to begin a new chapter in my coaching career development with FC Westlake. I will do my best to help all of our players not only learn and love the game but to also grow into future leaders on and off the field” said Jimmy Stanton.

Rob Hayward - Program Director 2009 Boys & Girls. Rob joined the FC Westlake family in 2018 and has been an integral part of our program the last 12 months. Rob previously served as the club director of coaching for Liverpool FC America & Junior Academy director for Austin Texans.

“I’m delighted and excited to become a full-time director at FC Westlake, the last 12 months have been amazing, I’ve worked with some fantastic families and coaches and look forward to helping build the premier soccer program in Austin”, said Rob Hayward.

Marco Gutierrez - Program Director South Austin/Buda. FC Westlake has appointed Marco Gutierrez to run the FC Westlake South Austin/Buda program. The expansion comes after several years of growth as FC Westlake looks to continue providing a premier soccer program in Austin and surrounding areas.

Marco previously worked with Liverpool FC America as a head coach and is the former Men’s Head Coach at Huston-Tillotson University. Marco currently holds a USSF C license and is pursuing his USSF B license.

“My family and I are blessed to have the opportunity to join a great club like FC Westlake. I look forward to growing the club in South Austin and providing a new experience for South Austin communities” said Marco Gutierrez.

FC Westlake’s club expansions mean the soccer club now offers programs in West, South, and East Austin as well as the Buda area south of Austin.

The Director of Coaching for FC Westlake, Andy McClelland, said “It is an extremely exciting time to be a part of the FC Westlake community. As we expand our locations and full-time members of staff, we want to continue to focus on making our program not the biggest but the best in the city”.
