Recreational Soccer - Program Overview
The WYSA Recreational program is for boys and girls, ages 3 to 18 who want to have fun playing soccer, regardless of their skill level. WYSA primarily forms school based teams within each age group for both boys & girls. A brief overview of each program is available below. Games are mostly on Saturday’s and all our recreational teams are coached by volunteer parent coaches. This program is designed to be a fun and enjoyable experience for all.
School Based Soccer Teams:
WYSA's goal for our recreational soccer program is to form school based teams in every age and gender from U4 through U18. BY forming teams based on which school your child attends we are able to simplify the team building process and also practice locations to make soccer as convenient as possible. Players are allowed to play on a team outside of their school by request if needed. We also have a number of players who do not attend school in the Eanes district, they can choose which team to play on. You do not have to live in the Eanes school district to participate in our program, we serve players from West Austin, Central Austin, Lakeway, North Central Austin & South West Austin, Barton Creek/Oak Hill. The schools we serve include; (Barton Creek, Bridge Point, Cedar Creek, Forest Trail, Valley View, Eanes, Casis, Oak Hill, River Place, Lake Pointe, St. Michael's, Trinity, St. Francis, St. Gabriel's, St. Stephen's, St. Andrew's, HCMS, WRMS, O'Henry MS, WHS & Many local area Pre-School's).
Pre-k Recreational Soccer:
The U4 & U5 program focuses on non-competitive, learn-through-play skills development. Teams hold a single practice-and-play session once each Saturday at 8:30am. FUN based learning is our focus and parents are invited to join the WYSA family and become coaches or assistant coaches. This age group uses a size #3 soccer ball.
Kindergarten Recreational Soccer:
The U6 program introduces players to the concept of small-sided games in a 3v3 format. Teams will attend a scheduled practice/game every weekend. The first 30 minutes will be practice time. The second 30 minutes will be a full 3v3 game with the coaches refereeing. Each week your opponent will change. You will receive a red game jersey & white practice shirt, home team wears red, visitor wears white. No scores will be kept. This group uses a size #3 soccer ball.
1st Grade Recreational Soccer
The U7 program adds the element of friendly inter-team competitions in a '3v3' format. The3v3 format emphasizes individual and small-group play. Teams hold a short practice (30-40 mins) prior to playing an officiated game on a Saturday. For these games rosters are split into two teams A & B. This allows more experienced players and those with stronger physical attributes to play against similar players. It also allows for lesser experienced players and those who are not as physically capable to play against like competition, ultimately providing a balanced playing field for all our soccer players. FUN based learning is still our primary focus; however basic technical aspects of the game are introduced throughout the training. This age group uses a size #3 soccer ball.
2nd Grade Recreational Soccer
The U8 program continues the element of friendly inter-team competitions but moves to a '4v4' format. The 4v4 format emphasizes individual and small-group play.
3rd & 4th Grade Recreational Soccer
The U9 and U10 programs expand to 6v6 format introducing goalkeepers and more complex tactical play. Moderately competitive, these teams attend a practice session one evening per week and a game each Saturday during the season. We strive to balance FUN and development from a technical and tactical standpoint with this age group
5th & 6th Grade Recreational Soccer
WYSA fields age pure teams for this age group, we play games within WYSA and the Lonestar Recreational Programs. Teams play 8v8, 7 field players and a goal keeper on a field apporx 70 yards x 50 yards. Rosters have a maximum of 14 players. Teams typically have one practice and game per week. Players need a size #4 ball
7th-12th grade Recreational Soccer
WYSA fields a mixture of age pure and combined aged teams in these age groups. All play in the local associations league (CAYSA) during the fall and spring seasons. These teams compete in large-field, 11v11 and there is generally one practice and one game per week. Home games are played in Westlake. All players use a size #5 soccer ball.
With the exception of some clinics, all WYSA programs are gender-specific and equal opportunity is provided for both boys and girls.
